[ARCHIVED] Proposed State Action Concerning to Village Zoning

Yesterday in East Meadow a Press Conference was held on a recently discovered item hidden within Governor Hochul’s proposed 2022-2023 State Budget. ”Section AA” of the proposed budget intends to eliminate single-family home zoning across New York State.  The Press Conference was  attended by a wide range of Local Officials that included the Nassau County Executive Blakeman, Legislators, County Clerk, County Comptroller, Hempstead, North Hempstead and Oyster Town Supervisors and several Village Mayors and Trustees.

Mayor Novick, who is on the Executive Board of the Nassau County Village Officials Association (NCVOA), and our Board of Trustees are working with other Long Island Officials and the New York Conference of Mayors (NYCOM) on this issue that threatens the quality of life of the suburban community.  Letters were issued by Mayor Novick earlier this week to all State Officials that represent Old Westbury demanding immediate action be taken to have this unwarranted proposal removed from Governor Hochul’s  proposed budget. Following yesterday’s Press Conference, Joseph Saladino contacted Mayor Novick and other area Mayors to write a joint letter to the Governor requesting that this item be removed. A copy of this letter is attached here.

Residents can be assured that the Mayor and Board of Trustees are working with other elected officials on Long Island to battle this very concerning matter and to protect the value of Home Rule that allows local municipals to serve their residents directly without interference from unwarranted State rules and regulations.

Please click here to access a petition that residents are encouraged to complete so your voice is heard on this very important issue that effects all Long Islanders.
