Village of Old Westbury Mayor Edward Novick and Police Chief Robert Glaser joined Nassau County Legislator and other community activists to call on Nassau County to study the traffic conditions of Glen Cove Road and implement changes following two recent major accidents, one of which took the life of a 17-year-old village resident on his way home from school.
“I cannot express more deeply the heartbreak that the entire Village of Old Westbury feels for this tragic loss,” said Mayor Edward Novick. “For years, we have been trying to create safer roadways for residents in and around the Village of Old Westbury. I applaud the efforts of Legislator Lafazan to strive for change on this serious issue.”
Flashing speed monitoring signs and improved street lighting were discussed as possible solutions for the roadway that sees a heavy flow of traffic every day.
Police Chief Robert Glaser discussed the importance of traffic safety to his department as he stood in front of a steady stream of cars and large trucks passing in the background.
The Village Board and Police Department will continue to advocate for increased safety measures on Village roadways and will keep residents apprised of all developments on the topic.
