Suspicious/Unusual Activity

On Tuesday May 3, 2022 at approximately 7pm the Old Westbury Police received a call from a resident on Wheatley Road.  The resident reported 2 dirt bikes were riding on an abandoned property next to the resident’s home. Patrol officers quickly responded to the scene and met with the caller. At this time the resident stated they did not see or hear the dirt bikes anymore.   Officers began to check the area. While checking the abandoned property next to the caller’s home, an officer observed a dirt bike come from behind the house and exit the property without stopping for the officer. The dirt bike was traveling off the paved areas not easily accessible by patrol vehicles.  The officer then observed a second dirt bike and was able to stop it.  A notification was made to other Old Westbury Police Officers in the area, who were also looking for the dirt bikes.  The dirt bike that drove off was last seen on Post Rd heading south towards Westbury.  The dirt bike that officers stopped on the abandoned property was impounded. The operator was properly identified and issued a summons for trespassing.  The subject was transported home by the officers. The subject stated he used to work in the area and thought there were some open areas in Old Westbury to ride their dirt bikes.  The Old Westbury Detective Bureau was notified and conducting a follow up investigation into the second subject.  This is an isolated incident and the only report of dirt bikes or any all-terrain vehicles in the Village of Old Westbury this year.  We continue to encourage residents to promptly notify the Village of Old Westbury Police Department of any suspicious activity 516-626-0200.
