Proper Plant Watering in Hot Weather
Despite some afternoon rain today, outside trees and plants still might need additional water during long periods of hot dry weather. In hot weather it is always best to water in the mornings when it is cooler. This will allow more water to reach the root system before it evaporates in the heat. “Deep watering” allows the water to seep beneath the roots, which encourages the roots to grow downward.
There may be times when you cannot schedule watering in the morning. In this case, water the plants in the late evening before bed. Try never to water in the heat of the day since roots will come to the surface and risk the chance to burn as well as faster evaporation.
