Police Chief transition for the Village of Old Westbury
At the November 21, 2022 Board of Trustee meeting, Chief Robert Glaser announced his January 2, 2023 retirement. It is with profound appreciation that we acknowledge Chief Glaser’s nearly thirty-four years of service to the residents of our Village. We wish him Godspeed as he embarks on this new chapter in his life.
In March, 2022, the Board of Trustees initiated the Civil Service Police Chief examination necessary to establish a list of eligible Chief candidates pursuant to Civil Service Law.
Having received the results of the exam in October, pursuant to Civil Service Law, the Board initiated interviews for Chief candidates.
In anticipation of the completion of all Civil Service requirements, at the December 2022 Board of Trustee meeting the Board will formally announce its selection for the new Police Chief of the Village of Old Westbury. The new Chief will begin seamlessly leading the department on January 3, 2023.
At the recommendation of the Board, the new Chief will be looking to schedule introductory meetings with the residents of the Village in the first quarter of the New Year so everyone may become acquainted with the Department’s new leadership. The new Police Chief will bring to the Village considerable knowledge and experience in policing best practices and technology to continue to evolve the department into the most effective and most efficient it can be in public safety and enforcement.
On a separate note, on November 23, 2022, the Mayor and Trustees visited with the Nassau County Police Department’s Technology Team at the Nassau County Public Safety and Specialty Command Center. This visit was to review the various platforms Nassau County is using in the Board’s ongoing mission to strategically support the tactical leadership of the Old Westbury Police Department.
