Message from the Chief of Police

As you may know, this January third, I was inducted to serve as the Chief of your Village Police Department.  I am honored to be named the seventh Chief of the Old Westbury Police Department, whose origin began with its founding in 1924.

On January third of last year, I retired after a thirty-seven-year career with the Suffolk County Police Department, ending my career as the Chief of the Department and the acting Police Commissioner.

My career with Suffolk County included a wide variety of assignments enabling me to work with numerous Local, State and Federal agencies during my tenure.  I will be leveraging all my experience in my new role as Chief to further enhance the capabilities of the Village Police Department.

Although I worked in Suffolk County for many years, I am a lifelong resident of the Town of Oyster Bay, and have always lived nearby Old Westbury.  I very much look forward to meeting the Village residents and learning more about this beautiful Village from the resident’s perspective, as well as providing an opportunity for you all to learn more about me. As your Chief of Police I will be fully engaged to the community.
In order to begin the process of meeting people and hearing the thoughts and concerns of our resident’s first-hand, I will be hosting a series of community meetings.  So as to allow people adequate time to discuss issues of concern I will limit the size of these meetings to twenty individuals at a time. However, rest assured that everyone who is interested will have the opportunity to attend one of these meetings.
The first two meetings I will schedule will be held on Tuesday, January 31st, upstairs in the Village DPW building. One will be held at 4:00 pm and a second at 6:30 pm.

Please contact Fara Gaertner, the Village Administrator if you are interested in attending one of these
meetings. You may email Ms. Gaertner at or call (516)626-0800.  If you contact the Village and find that the space for these first two meetings is filled, your name will be placed on a list for the next meetings that I will be scheduling, and you will be contacted so you may attend.

I look forward to meeting with you later this month.
