[ARCHIVED] Message from the Chief of Police

As you all know, I was installed as your new police chief at the beginning of this month.  Prior to being sworn in as chief, I had already begun a systematic, top to bottom analysis of the public safety initiatives within the village.  This analysis will continue for some time.  My singular objective as your chief is to keep all of the village residents safe utilizing my 37 years of law enforcement experience, in consultation with the Nassau County Police Department.  Accordingly, as I review our current strategies, I will begin to implement changes that I believe are in the best interest of public safety.

It is my goal to increase the effectiveness of our police department through changes in policy, deployment strategies, and the ongoing acquisition of new technology and equipment.  I feel very strongly that the caliber of the employees within the police department is excellent and as we implement these changes our department will continue to expand upon their ability to maintain public safety within our village.

As you are likely aware our department recently apprehended individuals who came into the village in a stolen car on two occasions.  These arrests likely prevented further criminal behavior from occurring within the village.  Additionally, one of our patrol cars was rammed by suspects in a stolen vehicle, which as a result was able to elude capture, however again further criminal activity was very likely prevented.

The main purpose of this message is to inform village residents about some of the modifications to our public safety strategies.  Effective today the security patrols provided by MCS will be terminated and will be replaced by intelligence target patrols of police officers, who can apprehend and arrest those who come into Old Westbury to target our residents.    Additional equipment has been ordered, for our department.  This equipment includes tire deflation devices and GPS tracking technology that will allow our officers to tag cars and track their locations.

If you have not yet done so, I strongly encourage you to sign up and attend one of the ongoing community meetings that I will be hosting so that I can provide additional information to you.
