[ARCHIVED] Letter from Mayor Chimerine

Dear Residents,
I am writing to inform you that on February 21, 2023, Mayor Edward Novick submitted a letter to the Board announcing his resignation. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I would like to thank Mayor Novick for his dedicated commitment and service to our Village, and we wish him all the best.

Because the Mayor’s term had not yet expired, the Board of Trustees met and unanimously voted to appoint me to fill the vacancy as per Civil Service guidelines. I have served the Village as a trustee for approximately 8 years and look forward to continuing my service in the capacity of Mayor. While I am grateful to have earned the confidence of my fellow trustees in this selection, I’d like to note that we, as a Board, are elected to represent the interests of every resident, and any and all decisions made on behalf of the Village will be by majority vote of the Board of Trustees, regardless of titles.
We have an incredible group of hardworking trustees in place, and each one has only the best interests of the Village at heart.

In that vein, the Board has recently made some personnel changes at Village Hall to ensure our Village continues on a path of improvement. Our new Police Chief, Stuart Cameron, is the first Chief in Village history to be hired from outside our police department. He brings to us over 37 years of experience and knowledge that will no doubt maximize the safety of all residents. Our new Village Administrator, Fara Gaertner, also comes to us with 20 plus years of experience from Williston Park. Leah Leston, a long-time village employee, has been promoted to Deputy Village Clerk Treasurer. Our newest addition is Samantha Cesario, formerly with the Village of Great Neck, as she steps into Leah’s shoes as our Court Clerk. I encourage everyone to stop by Village Hall, meet our employees, and reach out to them with any and all questions. They are here to support and help all of us.
During my years as trustee, I have worked with many residents on various projects from Village beautification to amendments of our existing laws. We are fortunate to be part of an incredible community of brilliant, resourceful and generous residents. You do not need to be elected to be involved. Your thoughts, ideas, and expertise are always welcome.
Let’s all work together to make this Village the best it can be. This is the Incorporated Village of Old Westbury and each and every resident is a shareholder.
I want to thank my fellow trustees again for their confidence, and I am excited for the changes that are coming!
 Yours truly,
 Mayor Marina Chimerine
