Yesterday, 7/12/23, our department received a call for a suspicious subject seen leaving a home on Wheatley Road. Officers were immediately dispatched to that location. Shortly after responding to the area a vehicle bearing New Jersey plates and fitting the description of the suspect vehicle seen leaving the home was located. The suspect was initially detained for traffic offenses. After further investigation the suspect was ultimately charged with burglary, criminal trespass, larceny and the aforementioned traffic infractions.
As of the midpoint of this year (July 1), as compared to the same period last year, burglary is down by 60%, attempted burglary is down by 50% and auto theft is down by 56%. In addition to this arrest, our department has made various other key arrests that have contributed to this crime reduction, including an arrest for attempted burglary in February and a recent arrest for criminal trespass.
We value our partnership with village residents and we urge you to continue to be vigilant and immediately notify our department of any circumstances that you deem to be suspicious.
