On Thursday, September 7, 2023, at approximately 7 pm, our department was alerted to a stolen vehicle entering the village via a license plate reader detection. Whenever we receive a notification from our network of license plate readers, the members of our department launch an immediate, coordinated search in an effort to locate the identified vehicle. Many stolen vehicles are utilized to commit other crimes, so quickly locating any stolen vehicles operating within the village is a high priority to protect our residents. After a thorough and comprehensive search, the stolen vehicle was located at Westbury High School while occupied by two individuals. The two occupants were juveniles, and they were taken into custody. They were charged with multiple felony level offenses including Grand Larceny and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. A realistic looking replica pistol was recovered from within the vehicle; however, it was subsequently determined to be a BB gun. The vehicle had been stolen recently from the Hicksville area after it had been parked with the key fob inside.
